Building work has now begun on the Community Stadium at the Quadrant development off the A16 at Tytton Lane East in Wyberton that is set to become the new home of Boston United football club. So at the end of this season Boston United will move from the stadium that has been their only home since their formation in 1933. If the new ground is ready, they will play their games there. If not, they will arrange to ground share until it is. It is expected that the York Street ground will be sold, demolished and redeveloped, probably as housing. So 2020 will almost certainly mark the end of an era.
In all over 2000 first team games have been played at York Street by Boston United over their 81 playing seasons there. More than 900 players have put on a Boston United shirt and they've scored almost 5,000 goals at the ground. The turnstiles have clicked over almost five million times. Famous victories have been achieved. Silverware has been won. Thousands of pies, pot noodles, sausage rolls and burgers have been consumed. Tea, coffee, bovril and pop drunk. Match programmes and golden goal tickets purchased. So there is lots of history and there are lots of memories. Over the season I will be exploring these memories.
