Kieran Leabon skips through the Prescot Cables defence

Prescot Cables 2-2 Boston United

Unibond League Premier Division

Boston United gifted Prescot Cables their first point of the season after conceding two goals following free kicks. The Pilgrims were forced to make one change to their starting line-up from Monday's game when Jon Rowan was ruled out injured - Stewart Talbot taking his place. The home side took the lead in the ninth minute when Rob MCINTOSH rose above Stewart Talbot to head the ball home from a free kick. Boston though they had equalised when Talbot put the ball in the net, but the referee had spotted an infringement in the build up. Prescot almost increased their lead in bizarre fashion when restarting the game with a drop ball following an injury stoppage. The ball was lobbed back towards Chris Wright and almost beat him, forcing him to stretch and palm the ball behind for a corner. Sportingly Prescot didn't compete for the corner and just passed the ball along the ground to Wright. Boston won a succession of corners themselves but failed to convert any of them into goalscoring chances. Boston's equaliser came in the 38th minute following a long throw by Liam Parker.

The ball found its way through to Jon FROGGATT at the back post and he turned and rifled the ball into the bottom corner. Keiran Leabon came on for Lee Beeson in the 57th minute and was soon causing panic in the Prescot defence. LEABON gave Boston the lead on 64 minutes when he instigated a fine series of passing moves that ended with him side footing the ball home from close range. The lead lasted just five minutes. Prescot equalised with a header from substitute Eammon PRICE after the Boston defence had failed to clear from a free kick. A superb save by Prescot's keeper denied Boston a win well into stoppage time. After the match Tommy Taylor said: "It doesn't matter about the pitch really. The grass is long, divots all over the place, it's bumpy, but they have to deal with it, so I think it's like a leveller out there. They try to upset everybody about the pitch so they can play their kind of game on it."

Boston United: Chris Wright, Liam Parker, Ryan Clarke, Matt Bloomer, Liam Green, Stewart Talbot (Adam Millson 77), Lee Beeson (Kieran Leabon 57), Wes Parker (Michael Wood 80), David Farrell, Jon Froggatt, Ollie Ryan. Subs not used: Ben Joyce, Danny Steadman.
