Pilgrims 1-1 Barnet

Nationwide Conference

by Barbara Singleton

A last-minute equaliser at York Street last night keeps Boston United on track to become the county's second Nationwide League Club. A share of the spoils against an impressive Barnet side in front of 3,669 fans once again highlights the contrasting fortunes between the Pilgrims and their neighbours Lincoln City. Barnet were protecting a 76th minute lead given to them by Danny BROWN. But then home man-of-the-match Mark Angel swung over a deep corner from the right and defender Jim RODWELL rose to head the equaliser.

The true value of that point-saver will probably not be fully known until the Pilgrims weigh up the full impact of the complete Easter programme - including their own trip to Southport in 48 hours' time plus the double action bill for rivals Dagenham and Redbridge (Nuneaton today and Morecambe on Monday). But Rodwell felt the result had its merits. He said: "I thought our performance wasn't too bad and we were pleased with a point considering what the scoreline was when 90 minutes was up. Psychologically it was important that we didn't lose." Manager Steve Evans was unsure what to make of the outcome. He said: "It could be a point won. Or it might turn out to be two lost that costs us the title. But we won't know that until the end of the season."
