Chester City 0-1 Pilgrims

Coca Cola League

Boston United recorded only their second away win of the season as they beat Chester City courtesy of a late goal from Simon Rusk, condemning the Cheshire side to their sixth consecutive League defeat. The Boston playing squad contained all three of the youngsters signed on-loan from Premiership sides at the end of the week. Twenty year old James Keene from Portsmouth started up front alongside Julian Joachim, while twenty year old right winger Peter Till from Birminham City and twenty-one year old defender Gary Silk from Portsmouth had places on the subs' bench. With nineteen year olds Conrad Logan in goal and Asa Hall in midfield the Boston side had a definite youthful look about it. The first half was uneventful, with neither side looking like scoring. Boston won two free kicks about twenty five yards from goal, but Chester keeper Stephane Gillet made easy saves from both efforts, the first by David Galbraith, the second by Simon Rusk. There was a moment of controversy when James Keene appeared to be brought down by David Artell as he ran into the area, but the referee decided that Keene had dived and booked the young striker.

Five minutes before half time a shot by Keene was parried by Gillet only for the ball to fall to Julian Joachim who then mishit his shot wide. Early in the second half one new boy replaced another when Peter Till came on for Asa Hall. Chester's new loan-signing from Lincoln City - Derek Asamoah - then forced Conrad Logan to concede a corner, but the Boston keeper had no problems gathering the subsequent kick. Boston scored the game's only goal eight minutes from time. Simon RUSK got on the end of Alan White's cross from the right wing to side foot the ball home from twelve yards out. Asamoah should have done better after getting on the end of a punt upfield in injury time, but he failed to control the ball and Logan was able to collect the ball. After the match Steve Evans said: "These boys have all got ability. If we can play a little part in helping them get decent experience at this level then perhaps they will fondly remember Boston United as a club that gave them an opportunity to play some League Football"
