Worcester City 3-2 Pilgrims

Friendly

by Barbara Singleton

Triallist striker Carl HEGGS made a double impact for Boston United last night. But his two-goal contribution wasn't enough to prevent the Pilgrims from slipping to a 3-2 defeat at Dr Martens League Premier Division side Worcester City in United's latest pre-season fixture. HEGGS' twin-hit took his tally to four goals since joining the York Street outfit on a trial basis.

His previous goals had come in the matches against Peterborough and Northampton and last night he found the net once in each half at Worcester. But the home side responded with strikes from ex-Lincoln City boss Phil STANT, Mark OWEN and an own goal from Boston full-back Mark CLIFFORD. The Pilgrims fielded a team comprising mainly senior squad players, but included a couple of triallists in their ranks.

Boston team: 1. Evans, 2. Clifford, 3. Triallist, 4. R Weatherstone, 5. Wornham, 6. Rusk (Cook), 7. Brown, 8. Costello, 9. Murphy (Gould), 10. Town (Clare), 11. Heggs. Subs (not used): Bastock, Elding, Lodge.
