Pilgrims 2-5 Ipswich Town

Friendly

Ipswich's "Tractor Boys" were the first of four quality sides scheduled to visit York Street during pre-season and they turned over the Pilgrims good and proper. For the first half Boston were able to match their Championship opponents with some stylish, attractive football, but they ran out of steam in the second half, allowing Ipswich to score at will. Boston took the lead on 24 minutes when Jason LEE lobbed the ball over Ipswich's keeper Lewis Price. The scores were levelled seven minutes later as Nicky FORSTER tapped the ball home from close range following a free kick by Darren Currie. Ipswich changed seven of their side at half-time and the Pilgrims brought on Scott Howie for Nathan Abbey, Ashley Edkins for Lee Canoville and Danny Thomas for Simon Rusk. It only took one minute for Ipswich to take the lead when Owen GARVAN first hit the bar and then followed up to poke the rebound home. Ipswich scored their third goal on 62 minutes when Ben Futcher failed to challenge FORSTER, allowing him to pick his spot with a shot that gave Howie no chance.

Boston reduced the deficit a minute later when Daryl CLARE scored a rare goal, heading home a cross from Danny Thomas. Ipswich got their fourth goal courtesy of Pilgrims' defender Alan WHITE who diverted a corner taken by Currie into his own net. The scoring was completed in the 82nd minute when Jim MAGILTON lobbed Howie from the edge of the area. Youngster Rob Norris almost got a consolation goal near the end, but his shot was just wide.
