Simon Weatherstone takes a breather

Pilgrims 4-0 Yeovil Town

Nationwide Conference

Just like last season, the fixture computer has thrown together the "Pilgrims" and the "Glovers" at York Street in mid-September. But what a difference a year makes. Last September Boston United were rock bottom of the Conference looking for their first win of the season, and Yeovil were sitting proudly at the top. That game went against form as Boston overwhelmed their Somerset opponents 4-1. Form seems to be irrelevant for this fixture however as although now close together in the table, once again Boston notched up four goals, this time without reply. Ross Weatherstone had picked up an injury in training the day before the match so Michael Brown started. Mike Marsh had still not recovered from his hamstring injury, so Peter Costello retained his place in the side. The first half was fairly dull. The closest Boston came to scoring was a long-range deceptive lob from Simon Weatherstone that bounced off the crossbar. Ken Charlery also came close, but just failed in his attempt to force the ball home in a goalmouth scramble.

The second half was only four minutes old when Boston took the lead. Daryl Clare won a corner following a run down the left wing. With usual corner kick taker Jamie Cook having been replaced at half-time by James Gould, Simon Weatherstone took the kick and he picked out Michael BROWN at the back post who headed home. On 68 minutes the "Pilgrims" increased their lead via another Weatherstone corner, this one from the right wing found CHARLERY's head at the near post. Weatherstone also had a hand in the third Boston goal three minutes later. His piledriver of a free kick from well outside the area was fumbled by Sheffield in the Yeovil goal and CLARE was on hand to bundle the ball home after Gould had flicked the rebound goalwards. SIMON WEATHERSTONE completed the scoring ten minutes from the end when he drilled home after Brown had made a good run into the box and cut the ball back to him.
